Moosewood Cardamom Coffee Cake
A Cornell student, named Mollie Katzen, helped to start a mostly vegetarian restaurant, in Ithaca New York, in 1973. They focused on using local, seasonal fare. Katzen introduced America to vegetarian cooking, and eventually published her recipes in The Moosewood Cookbook.
This coffee cake was like many others in the 1970's, but she added the bold spice, cardamom. In 2007, her cookbook was placed in the Cookbook Hall of Fame, by the James Beard Foundation.
My Experience:
This cake was pleasant to make. I only needed a couple dishes to put it together and the steps were simple to follow. The cake made the house smell cozy due to the cinnamon and the cardamom. The cake itself was pretty good, but not super exciting. I think if I did it again, I would add more filling.
