Rum Sizzle Cake
Eugene Walter created this fruitcake. He gave it this name due to the sizzling sound the rum makes when poured into the holes of the warm baked cake. This cake uses a lot of dried and candied fruits.
My Experience:
The Rum Sizzle Cake is one of the cakes from this book that turned out to be a big fail on my part. I tried following the directions for making candied ginger and orange and lemon peel and that was a fiasco. They did not look like they were supposed to and they were disgusting when I tried to eat them. The cake itself was also pretty rank in my opinion. The first 4 ingredients on the list are all things that I do not care for; dark raisins, golden raisins, prunes, and dark rum. It turns out that my neighbors felt the same way.
Neighbor's Comments:
"I was not a fan of this last cake."
"It seriously burned my tongue. My husband said he couldn't taste the alcohol, but he had just taken a shot of tequila so..."
