Thank you!
Thank you for joining me on my 6 year journey of working through an entire book of recipes! I have made 99 cakes, starting with the gingerbread cake in the 1700's, and ending with modern gems like the Chocolate Stout Cake and Tres Leches Cake. I messed up royally on a small handful of the cakes, but for the most part the cakes turned out deliciously well. I thought that the easier cakes surprisingly tasted better than the fancy complicated ones.
I appreciate my family and my neighbors for being my taste-testers and for giving me their honest feedback. Looking back on old posts, I enjoy seeing what they had to say the most.
As I went through American Cake, I earmarked the cakes that I felt were worth making again. Here is the final list:
*Granny Kellett's Jam Cake
Coconut Layer Cake
Mahogany Cake with Seven-Minute Frosting
1-2-3-4 Cake
Burnt Leather Cake
Lazy Daisy Cake
New York Cheesecake
Cold Oven Pound Cake
Leah Chase's Butter Cake
Hugeonot Torte
*Gooey Butter Cake
Fruit Cocktail Cake
Texas Sheath Cake
German Chocolate Cake
Dione's Chocolate Roulade
Tunnel of Fudge Cake
Chez Panisse Almond Torte
Coca-Cola Cake
*The Hummingbird Cake
The Doberge Torte
*Hawaiian Chantilly Cake
California Orange and Olive Cake
Chocolate Stout Cake
*Tres Leches Cake
The * represents the cakes that got the biggest reaction from the taste-testers. They are the official top 5!
I did not include the recipes on the earlier entries, but if you enter any of these cake names into a google search you can find them and try them for yourself.
Woohoo! It feels good to have actually completed all of the cakes and the blog entries! Thanks again for reading along:)
