Mother Ann's Birthday Cake
"The inspiration for this cake recipe was Ann Lee, or Mother Ann, the founder of the American Shaker religious movement who emigrated from England in 1774. The first community of Shakers settled in the Hudson River Valley, where peaches once grew. The story goes that this cake was first made by whisking the egg whites with freshly cut peach twigs. It was common to whisk egg whites with twigs or sticks, whatever you had on hand, before the metal whisk was invented."
My Experience:
This cake uses 12 egg whites that need to be beaten until stiff peaks form. Luckily, I didn't have to use a peach twig:) The directions and steps are straightforward and the end result is a yummy basic cake. The book mentions that you can use any flavor of jam or preserves that you like between the layers, so you have lots of options. I liked this one and so did the family.
Recipe Link: this link uses Rose Water, my book just used regular Buttercream frosting.
