Pink Champagne Cake

1946-1962 Cake #15

Pink Champagne was a popular fad in the early 1960's. Hollywood actresses and Princess Margaret were known to drink pink champagne out at the nightclubs. Women's clubs started hosting pink champagne luncheons on special occasions. The color of the drink even became a fashionable color for jewelry and shag carpeting. A bakery, in Oregon, called Johnson's Model Bakery created a Christmas Pink Champagne Cake. Different variations of a champagne cake started popping up in California and Washington and then across the country. The Los Angeles Times said that the recipe for this cake is one of its most requested recipes of all time.

My Experience:

Inspiration for taking on this project was sparked by the picture of this beautiful cake on the cover of this cake book. I was excited to have finally gotten to it. I was also pleased to see that the recipe is actually fairly simple. I just had to find some pink champagne and some pretty flowers.

The cake had a nice texture and looked lovely. I personally thought that the flavor was a bit bland, but my neighbor's all had positive reviews.

Neighbor's Comments:

"This cake is beautiful and SO much frosting!"

" Just took a bite of the rose cake and I love it! I don't think it is bland. I think it's just right."

" Yup, rose cake is amazing."
